Since March 2013 Mario Melazzini is regional elected Councillor for Productive Activities, Research and Innovation at Regione Lombardia, where he previously was also Councillor for Healthcare.
Physician, specialist in General Hematology Clinic and Laboratory; researcher in the onco-hematological field. In 2003 he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
He is the Chairman of AriSLA, Italian Foundation for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research, and the Chairman of Fondazione Aurora, which gave life to the Clinical Center Nemo Sud at the University Hospital Policlinico ‘G. Martino’ in Messina.
In addition, he is the Scientific Director of the Clinical Center Nemo – Fondazione Serena at Niguarda Hospital in Milano.
He published many scientific articles and he is the author of several books related to his personal experience as physician and patient.
