Warburg Pincus

Since March 2012 Francesco Granata is an Executive in Residence at Warburg Pincus, a leading Private Equity firm, where he is leading the team that is in charge of investments in Pharma assets in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He is also currently Chairman of the Board of Circassia, a UK based speciality Biopharmaceutical company developing a range of world class immune therapies, that was recently listed at the London Stock Exchange (biggest Biotech IPO in UK). In addition he is board member of Italfarmaco, one of the leading Italian pharmaceutical groups that operates internationally both in the Pharma and Chemical sectors; board member of BSP, an Italian specialized CMO (Contract Manufacturing Organization); board member of Prismic Pharmaceuticals, a US based medical food company; member of the strategic advisory board of Lupin, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company.

He is a medical doctor by training and is an accomplished healthcare executive, with over 35 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Most recently he served as Executive Vice President and member of the Executive Committee at Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB), a leading global biotechnology company based in Boston (Massachusetts) where he led the Global (including USA) Commercial and Medical Affairs operations till February 2012.

Previously Francesco Granata was based in New York and was Group Vice President and President for Schering-Plough’s Europe and Canada Region from 2005-2009, with responsibility for $5billion in revenues and over 5000 employees, and served as a member of the firm’s Operations Management Team.

Before that, he has held Senior regional management positions with Pfizer in New York (President of Northern European Region, President of Middle East, India and Africa), Managing Director positions in Italy with Pharmacia and Dompé Biotec, and a commercial management position with Glaxo Italy.

He started his career in the R&D sector where he led the medical department of Glaxo Italy and Southern Europe, and served as a Board Member of Glaxo International Research.

Francesco Granata has served as a member of several industry associations: Board Member of Farmindustria (Italy), Head of Italian LAWG, Chairman of Pharma Heads of Europe Committee, Co-Chairman of EFPIA Heads of Europe Committee and Board member of EFPIA.

 

 

 

 

 

Da marzo 2012 Francesco Granata è Executive in Residence presso Warburg Pincus, primaria società di Private Equity, nella quale gestisce gli investimenti nel settore Pharma in Europa, Medio Oriente e Africa.

È inoltre Presidente di Circassia, azienda biofarmaceutica inglese che sviluppa un ventaglio di terapie immuni di prim’ordine, che è stata recentemente quotata al London Stock Exchange risultando la principale Biotech IPO in UK. Inoltre, è membro del Board di Italfarmaco, uno dei principali gruppi farmaceutici italiani che opera a livello internazionale nei settori farmaceutico e chimico; membro del board di BSP, CMO (Contract Manufacturing Organization) italiana; membro del board di Prismic Pharmaceuticals, azienda americana che opera in ambito medical food; membro del comitato strategico di Lupin, primaria azienda farmaceutica indiana.

È un medico di formazione e ha maturato una carriera da Executive in ambito Healthcare, con oltre 35 anni di esperienza nei settori farmaceutico e biotecnologico.

Di recente è stato Executive Vice President e membro dell’Executive Committee di Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB), azienda globale di biotecnologia basata a Boston (Massachusetts), nella quale ha guidato a livello globale (incluso il mercato USA) la divisione Commercial and Medical Affairs fino a febbraio 2012.

Dal 2005 al 2009 ha lavorato a New York in qualità di Group Vice President e Presidente della regione Europa e Canada di Schering-Plough, con la responsabilità di 5 miliardi di dollari di fatturato e oltre 5000 dipendenti, ed è stato membro dell’ Operations Management Team dell’azienda.
