There are all the signs of an imminent and radical change in the automotive industry , where the most wealthy - and persistent - admirer of Tesla is now called Apple. And if just two months ago, the Open automotive alliance was born. It’s a partnership that sees allies big car Companies (Audi, Honda, Hyundai, Gm ), an important player in the world of semiconductors such as nVidia and the undisputed leader of the digital planet : Google.
In the Old Continent too, reasons appear to encourage a cautious optimism, thanks to positive data on car registrations: + 8% in February 2014 in the 28 EU countries (+8.6% in Italy ). And thanks to the news that, in the annual ranking by Brand –finance, the Ferrari brand is the most "powerful " in the world, surpassing giants like Coca-Cola (second) and even the ubiquitous Google (only fifth).
If, therefore, it is clear that the sector is crossed by a positive agitation, even as a reaction to years not brilliant, is rather more complex to identify the current trend. Still, it’s essential today to intercept technological innovations with which all actors in the sector will have to deal tomorrow: from design to manufacturing, from the market to new players.
Tuesday, April 1st, in Turin, a new meeting of the Community Club TITT (Technology, Innovation, Technology Transfer) will take place: a meeting entirely focused on automotive, which represents another step on the way to the Technology Forum 2014 (CastelBrando, 23th and 24th May).
The meeting will be led by Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli, scientist , entrepreneur and consultant: he currently holds the Chair Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley and he’s the co-founder of Cadence and Synopsys, two leading companies in the field of Electronic Design Automation .
Member of the Advisory Board of General Motors for Science and Technology from 2003 to 2013 and member of the Technology Advisory Council of United Technologies, Sangiovanni Vincentelli has been a consultant for Mercedes, BMW, Magneti Marelli; he also advised the Singapore Government for microelectronics and new businesses, and holds important positions within the CNR, the Italian Institute of Technology and the Italian Strategic Fund.
